Hi Dance North Dancer and Parents, Ann & Jo here from the Dance North Summer Intensive. We can't wait to see you soon, 4 days of amazing dance in beautiful northern Michigan is right around the corner! We're so happy that you are joining us this July as we continue to bring some of Broadways best “Up North” to inspire dancers at this one of a kind performance opportunity workshop. We look forward to treating you to an incredible dance experience in our brand new home! Yes, that’s right, we have moved to an amazing state of the art facility in Harbor Springs, not far from downtown Petoskey with all those sidewalk sales and even closer to Mackinaw City where the dancers will strut their stuff in performance. Bay Tennis & Fitness is located between Petoskey and Harbor Springs, just three miles from the US 31 and M 119 intersection and the club is just gorgeous. Their staff can’t wait to host us. This 10,000 sq ft air-conditioned facility opened November 2006 after a complete renovation and now features all state of the art exercise equipment. This includes a 1600 sq. ft group fitness center with three dedicated studios each with an air-cushioned floor (terrific for our dancers tired feet!). Adjacent to the fitness studio are the full service luxury locker rooms (towels, soap, shampoo, razors) that our dancers will have access to after their day of dance. Discounted guest passes will be available for our families, including access to a variety of cardio classes (spinning, Pilates, aerobics and yoga) as well as full use of the cardio fitness equipment and free weights. Tanning, massages, and tennis courts are also available for an additional cost. In addition, Bay Fitness will be conducting special activities (i.e. road bikes rides and more) during our workshop that our families are welcomed to attend. There is a wonderful food counter at Bay Tennis & Fitness, smoothies to salads they have it! They will be providing our lunches this year at a nominal cost. General Information on our workshop Classes & Performances: Classes will be held at Bay Tennis & Fitness 611 Woodview Dr. (just off M-119) Harbor Springs, MI. Wednesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday, July 23rd - 26th, 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Junior student's classes will begin on Thursday, July 26 and will run from 12:30 to 3:30. A complete schedule will be in your welcome packet at the workshop. Saturday, July 26th Sat is going to be a fun day for sure, we will spend much of it rehearsing for the evenings performances. We may also do a sneak peek performance at the Crossings in Mackinaw City before our always anticipated concert at Conkling Heritage Park on the waterfront in Mackinaw City. Expect a great crowd for our highly anticipated showcase of the workshop. It has truly become a town favorite. Class & Rehearsal schedule will be distributed on the 1st day of the workshop! Also, those who love applause... & who doesn't!! We encourage YOU to bring your recital and competition pieces and CD's. You may get the chance to perform them again, upon approval. Please keep the costumes & props simple as we have no place to change! We try to keep solos to graduating seniors, but encourage duets- trios and groups to bring their music and get one more chance to perform that fantastic routine for a very appreciative crowd! Attire for the performance is simple. Black Jazz pants and a sleeveless bright colored top with no LOGOS of any kind- black Jazz Sneakers if you have them and of course any other dance shoes you will need- Tap, Ballet.   Required Attire: Classes- Tasteful dance attire, show off your style! We will also have some great dancewear on sale at the workshop. For the Show it's very simple! Black Jazz Pants and a SOLID (no logo) brightly colored tank top with a black sports bra or black tank leotard under. Black stockings/tights/socks should be worn with the shoes. Students should bring black Jazz Sneakers, tap shoes (black preferred, tan if that's what you have). Seniors may bring character heels if they have them. If you have black or tan jazz or lyrical shoes bring those, too. Other than that just bring a great attitude and get ready to dance for four days with some of the best in the biz! Included is a suggested hotel/camping list for our out of town dancers if you need some assistance with lodging, you can also link to the chamber of commerce of both Petoskey and Mackinaw City from our site. We hope that you will take advantage of all the area has to offer your family! Lodging is your choice, feel free to book anywhere - we have found a few places that we think are great. You might consider staying in the Harbor/Petoskey area Wed & Thurs and head to Mackinaw for the weekend to take advantage of both spots. Staying at one location is just fine too as everything is very close. The Bridge celebration festivities include a parade on Saturday afternoon before our performances at the Mackinaw Crossings and Heritage Park that evening. We have also been invited to showcase a few numbers at the Mackinaw City Thunder Falls Water Park on Friday evening with FREE passes for the dancers and families! (Bring up those competition/recital numbers) We will have a more detailed schedule at the workshop, but wanted to give you a peek at the good times in store for the dancers this July!
